The one thing Vimeo does not do

Know what a sale is. There is no revenue metric anywhere in Vimeo analytics.

Open Vimeo's analytics and look for revenue. It is not there. Vimeo measures watching: plays, watch time, retention, beautiful charts of all three. Nothing in it knows what a sale is. No ad pixel fires on watch time, no server-side conversion path exists, and no help-center article documents a split test.

A chart is not a purchase event. TrackPlay fires Meta, TikTok and GA4 events from the server as people watch, reads the order your cart posts back, and decides the split test on that sale. That is the whole job of a player for sales videos, and it is the part Vimeo does not build.

How we source this. Every Vimeo cell is taken from their own public site or documentation, last checked on 24 July 2026 at vimeo.com. Where they do not publicly state a capability we say so, rather than claiming they lack it. If anything here is out of date, tell us at [email protected] and we will correct it.

Vimeo pricing vs TrackPlay pricing

Vimeo meters storage, seats and bandwidth, and never plays. Their current plan prices are on vimeo.com. TrackPlay meters the thing a VSL actually spends: plays.

Vimeo

Metered on storage, seats and bandwidth

  • Free1 GB lifetime, one seat
  • Paid plansTiered by storage and seats, on vimeo.com
  • PlaysNever metered

TrackPlay

Metered on plays

  • Free1,000 plays a month
  • Basic$29 a month, 5,000 plays
  • PRO$79 a month, 15,000 plays
  • SCALE$199 a month, 50,000 plays
A play is one real viewing session. Muted autoplay does not count, bots do not count, and the definition is published. Overage only happens if you turn it on. More than half of all web traffic is bots, per Imperva's annual Bad Bot Report, and a bandwidth allowance is spent by all of it. For storing video, Vimeo is cheaper. For selling with video, you would be building the pixel, postback and testing stack yourself.

Which one is for you

Two different jobs. Take the tool that is built for yours.

Pick Vimeo if

The video is the asset rather than the salesman. Vimeo is built for storage at scale, unmetered plays and studio-grade DRM. If you need Widevine or you are shipping terabytes, that is Vimeo's home turf.

Pick TrackPlay if

You buy traffic, and you need the ad platform to learn from what actually happened. Server-side Meta Conversions API, TikTok Events API and GA4, fired on watch time, then the verified sale posted back from your cart. Start on the free plan and see it on your own video.

Switch from Vimeo in an afternoon

Three steps, and your next play is already measured.

Step 1

Upload the same video file. The one that already converts. No re-edit, no re-encode on your side.

Step 2

Swap the embed code. One snippet out, one snippet in, on the same page.

Step 3

Point your cart postback at TrackPlay. Your next play is already measured.

Frequently asked questions

No. Vimeo's analytics measure watching, not buying. There is no revenue metric and no ad-platform event on watch time.
No help-center article documents one. TrackPlay splits traffic between whole-video variants under one embed, counts each cart-confirmed sale for the variant that earned it, and lets you declare a winner once the statistics are decisive.
For storing video, yes, but the comparison does not really apply: TrackPlay does not charge for storage at all. The meter is plays, so you pay when the video is watched, not for the terabytes it sits in. For selling with video, you would be building the pixel, postback and testing stack yourself. That build is the product you are buying here.
Yes. Upload the same file, swap the embed code, point your cart postback at TrackPlay. The free plan covers 1,000 plays a month while you test it.
